About The Catholic University of Korea

The Catholic University of Korea is a private Roman Catholic university. It is the oldest in South Korea having been established in 1855 with the creation of St Joseph’s Seminary.

The university went through a number of different iterations before it was named The Catholic University of Korea in 1995 with the merger of St Joseph’s Seminary, the College of Medicine, and Songsim Women’s University.

There are two campuses, one in Seoul, the other in Bucheon City.

The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate degrees to students, in the study areas of: humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. There are a range of courses to study from music to religious studies, from special education to biomedical chemical engineering. The Catholic University of Korea also offers a range of international programs, including the Interchange Program, where students can study abroad for either one year or one semester.

The university has eight affiliated hospitals: Catholic Medical Center, Seoul St Mary’s Hospital, Yeouido St Mary’s Hospital, Bucheon St Mary’s Hospital, Eunpyeong St Mary’s Hospital, Incheon St Mary’s Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, and Daejeon St Mary’s Hospital.

Notable alumni include actor Yoo Ji-tae.

Seoul is South Korea’s capital city, famous for its role in the technology industry with hubs located in Gangnam and Digital Media City. The area is a base for several multinational companies, such as: Samsung, LG and Hyundai. Seoul is also a city for sport and culture, having been the host for the 1988 Summer Olympics and 2002 FIFA World Cup. It was also host to the 2010 G-20 Summit.. Notable attractions in Seoul include the Gyeongbokgung historical palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, and Namsan peak.
