About Yerevan State University
Established in 1919, Yerevan State University (YSU) is the oldest and largest public university in Armenia.
The faculties include physics, mathematics, radio physics, informatics and applied mathematics, chemistry, biology, geography and geology, philosophy and psychology, sociology, theology, history, Armenian philology, Russian philology, Oriental studies, European languages and communication, journalism, economics and management, law and international relations.
In addition to these faculties, there is a preparatory department for foreign citizens, accommodating international students.
The university has a rich history and is recognised for its contributions to education and research in Armenia and internationally. It continues to be a prominent centre for higher learning in the region, attracting students and scholars from Armenia and abroad.
The Yerevan State University’s Ijevan Branch was established in the 1994-95 academic year. As of 2016, it comprises four faculties, offering further programmes in natural sciences, humanities, economics and applied arts.
Facilities include the university library and the publishing house. The university hosts the Armenian Egyptology Center, which focuses on Egyptology research. And it works in collaboration with the Ministry of Diaspora of Armenia to organise the Diaspora Summer School, aimed at preserving and reinforcing Armenian identity among Armenian diaspora communities and at promoting proficiency in the Armenian language among the younger generation of Armenians abroad.
